Dismissals to be discussed at labour forum

GDN: Members of Bahrain's trade unions will discuss the dismissals of workers during the International Labour Conference (ILC), which began in Geneva, Switzerland yesterday.

Three members of the General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions (GFBTU), led by deputy secretary-general Ibrahim Hamad, are expected to raise the issue during the 100th session of the event, running until June 17.

Bahrain's Labour Minister Jameel Humaidan will lead a government delegation and is expected to join GFBTU members in Geneva shortly.

It will include members of the labour inspection department and Labour Market Regulatory Authority.

MP Othman Sharif will also attend in his capacity as treasurer of Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The GFBTU has registered 1,702 workers who lost their jobs so they can take advantage of the monthly unemployment insurance scheme.
