DT: Independent bloc Deputy Head and MP Captain Mahmood Al Mahmood yesterday accused the Labour Ministry of putting pressure on public firms to reinstate the workers who were dismissed for taking part in protests and affecting the flow of work.
Capt. Al Mahmood also condemned the statements of International Labour Organization Director General Juan Sumavia, who demanded reinstatement of such workers.
He called on the ILO officials to send representatives to attend the trials that are being conducted for those who “killed and abducted the innocent, and created panic among the citizens resorting to arson attacks and damaging public and private property".
The MP said that the ministry was questioning the interests of these companies and was forcing them to reinstate those who incurred great financial losses to their employers.
He demanded the ministry to provide the companies freedom to choose their employees without interfering in their internal affairs.
Capt. Al Mahmood revealed that Mr. Sumavia had stated that the Bahraini law allows the establishment of independent labour unions, and peaceful demonstrations and the freedom of opinion".
But Mr. Sumavia did not accurately investigate the reasons behind their sackings,” he said and added that the ILO chief ignored the legal investigations and fair trials conducted in Bahrain.
The MP added that it was unfortunate that the ILO listened to only one party and did not investigate its credibility.
