Daily Tribune: Labour Minister Jameel Humaidan yesterday called on all laid off employees in the private sector, as a result of the recent unfortunate events in the Kingdom. Mr Humaidan reviewed the cases with the grievance committee of organisations that had sacked their employees to ensure layoffs were carried out within the framework of law.
The ministry confirmed in a statement that Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa had issued directions to form a supreme committee to look into matters related to employee layoffs. The committee was to be headed by Mr Humaidan as per the directives of the Premier.
The committee initiated a review of the recent layoffs to ensure safety of the legal process. The Labour Minister conducted meetings with large company representatives and institutions in the private sector for the same purpose.
The ministry confirmed that the companies and institutions were cooperative during the previous period and enquiries into the layoffs had been ongoing. Companies also opened the door for grievances by the laid off workers.
