Relatives desperate for any news about coma man

GDN: RELATIVES of an Indian worker, who suffered life threatening injuries after falling down the stairs during a freak accident at his home, are desperate for news on his condition.

Harjit Singh Mohinder Singh, 49, has been in coma at the Salmaniya Medical Complex's intensive care unit for the last three weeks.

The accident happened at around 9pm when he returned home after meeting a friend, who lives in a nearby flat.

His family members, especially his wife, are now calling his friends to check on his health condition.

Mr Singh underwent an operation following brain injuries and has since then been lying in coma, said his flatmate Sucha Singh.

"Since we called and informed his relatives about the incident, his brother-in-law is calling everyday to check on his condition," he said.

"The wife lives in a remote area, she doesn't have much access to telephone, but is asking her brother to call and check.

"He is still in the same condition and there is still no improvement.

"Doctors said he may come out of coma in two weeks. We are trying to convince his family that he will be fine, but they are adamant to speak to him.

"They are also asking us to send him back, but we can't as he is still in coma.

"We are also waiting for his condition to improve."

Mr Singh was found lying unconscious in the stairs by his roommate, who called the ambulance.

He is living in Bahrain illegally and doing odd jobs to survive.

Mr Singh, who came to Bahrain seven years ago, is from Sangrur city in Punjab and has a daughter and a son.

He came to Bahrain to work as a retail trade salesman, according to his friends.
