Decisive meeting for GIIC trade union

GIIC Trade Union board called all union's members and all workers for a decisive meeting at clubhouse, Saturday at 15:30 to determine the next step as no changes appeared on company position regarding discontinuation of transportation.

A Union source said “at the time that large companies discuss with their unions big issues like restructuring the organization, our management keep on taking one sided decisions without even consultation with the union which represents all workers and defends their well fares”.

The Union's spokesman added “an example of one sided measures was discontinuation of transportation service as of November 2009. This will affect more than 200 workers, creating many problems related to coming to work and going back home”.

According to Union's spokesman, the union sat with ministry of labor upon ministry request for conciliation.

The Union's position is that the negotiation mechanism should be part of the dialog and the circular of transportation should be suspended. "These are the minimum requirement to start the conciliation process" Union's spokesman said.

"Hundreds of workers are standing behind their union supporting two main demands, Continuation of transportation and signing joint work mechanism to avoid taking one sided decisions affecting workers' well fares.

On the expected decisions by the general assembly of the Union, the Union's source said "all legal options are open if management doesn't respond to workers concerns.

If there is a hope that this dispute will be resolved, the Union's source said "we hope that the Managing Director will say the final word and understand people suffering from one sided measures taken by executive management.

"we are not in a challenge against each other, nor we are seeking confrontation. Our demand is easy. We honestly urge the management to review their decision that will affect a large group of employees leading them to even think of leaving jobs".
