Firm pledges to pay salary dues to 250

GDN: MORE than 250 workers, who claimed they had not received their salaries for the past three months, are set to receive their dues, according to their employer.

The GDN reported on Friday that the first batch of 50 out of the 250 workers would leave Bahrain after receiving their unpaid salaries.

Al Hamad Contracting Company human resource manager Jameel Al Qahery said they would pay the workers their pending salaries shortly.

"They came to my office on Sunday and we had a talk about their issues," said Mr Al Qahery.
"Some said they want to go back for good, some want to go on vacation and come back while the rest would like to continue working for us.

"We have asked those who wish to leave for good to submit their resignation and received 50 already. "The rest want to go on vacation and are willing to come back to work for us.
"We will pay them their salaries and send them home if they are willing to go. "We are stating facts and don't want to hide anything from the workers."

The GDN reported on Wednesday that the workers from Rajasthan, India, gathered near the company entrance.

They said that they had been gathering near the company entrance to speak to the management, but to no result.

The workers also claimed 10 of them, who suffer from serious illnesses, are unable to go to the hospital for treatment as they had no money.

They work as masons and say they had not been contacted or visited by their employers.

However, the company said that it had already informed the authorities concerned that it would resolve the matter, adding that the workers were owed only two months' salary, which they will get by next week.

The workers, who earn BD120 per month, say they were also running out of food at their accommodation, which the company dismissed as it provided them with food and sweet water.
