Teachers' case is adjourned

GDN: The First Lower National Safety Court yesterday adjourned the hearing of Mahdi Isa Abu Dheeb and Jalila Mohammed Ridha Al Salman, from Bahrain Teachers Society, until June 15.

They pleaded not guilty to inciting people to commit crimes, calling for the overthrow of the government, holding pamphlets, disseminating fabricated information, leaving work on purpose, encouraging others to do so and taking part in illegal gatherings.

The Military Prosecution said their statements, investigations and technical information were enough to indict them.

In another case, Yunes Ghaloum denied seizing oxygen cylinders from Muharraq Maternity Hospital.

The Prosecution, however, argued that his confession and probe were enough evidence of his guilt, asserting its right to present a final pleading.

The court allowed the defence team to have access to the bill of indictment and adjourned the hearing until June 14.

It also adjourned until the same date a case of 16 suspects in connection with dangerous driving, damaging a private car and assaulting a police officer.

Witnesses testified that the defendants attacked the officer with sticks and knives in Hamad Town and broke his car windows.

The lawyers were given copies of the case documents, including a CD. The Prosecution and the defence team will present their final pleadings in the next session.

Thirteen others were tried for kidnapping and inciting crimes. The hearing was adjourned until June 14 to give them time to hire lawyers.

The case of the murder of policeman Ahmed Al Mrissi on duty on March 15 was also heard.

Defence witnesses testified that defendants Ali Yussef Abdulwahab Al Taweel and Ali Atiyya Mahdi Al Shamloul stayed at home in Sitra throughout the day.

The court allowed one suspect to receive medical treatment and will hear defence witnesses today.

Thirty-three suspects denied using weapons to steal money, setting fire to private farms for criminal ends and holding Molotov cocktails.

The Prosecution said their confessions, investigations and forensic evidence were enough proof of their guilt.

The court adjourned the case until June 15 to hear defence witnesses, allowed the suspects to be examined by forensic experts and agreed to provide medical care for those who needed it.

Relatives of the suspects and the victims were present in the court.
