DT: A mentally ill Nepali housemaid is allegedly stuck in Bahrain till her court case is resolved.The woman who had been allegedly raped is being treated at the Psychiatric Hospital in Salmaniya.
Nepali Club Secretary JP Sapkota said the woman had run away from her sponsor due to being overworked and beaten.“We were very disturbed when we received the case of this Nepali housemaid,” Mr Sapkota told DT.
“She had run away from her employer because she was beaten up and given too much workload. A few Asian men had allegedly picked her from the streets, raped her and dumped her somewhere.”
“She ended up in Manama where there were many Nepali workers around. They saw that she was mentally unstable and brought her to the club,” he added.
Mr Sapkota said that a case had been filed against her employer for refusing to release her from employment so she could return home.“We won the case but she was stopped at the airport when they realised she was mentally unstable,” he said.
“We then admitted her at the Psychiatric Hospital and her condition is now improving. But she prefers not to pursue the rape case, as she would end up being in Bahrain till the verdict is announced. She just wants to return to her home country.”
A source said that a runaway case had been filed against the woman and the case is now with the Public Prosecution.She testified during a trial that she was raped and had also tried to commit suicide earlier.Her sponsor has refused to withdraw the runaway case.
