Not for expats

DT: Expatriates may not be entitled to the salary hike which was announced by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, for employees of the civil and military sector.
“I think it will benefit only Bahrainis and probably only those expatriates whose employment status or terms of employment are on par with the citizens. To my knowledge the salary increase will be given to those who are registered under the Civil Service Bureau, which are only Bahrainis,” said Vice President of the Independent Bloc, President of the Human Rights committee and member of the Financial and Economical Committee, MP Captain Mahmood Al Mahmood.

MPs will look into ways to provide similar benefits to private sector employees, who obviously will not be included in the current order of the King. The Parliament will try to introduce mechanisms which will allow private sector companies to increase salaries of their workers. "These benefits may not be the same, but hopefully it will be substantial," Capt. Mahmood said.
“We will discuss and suggest methods when the Parliament sessions start again. Private companies which are making profits should voluntarily implement salary hikes for their employees. But by all means we will not force any private company,” he added.
King Hamad, had ordered an increase in the salaries of civil and military government employees and retirees on Thursday. The hike was to improve the standard of living and meet the rising cost of living, His Majesty had said, when he made the announcement.
The details of the salary increase are currently being worked out by the finance ministry and the civil service bureau, sources told DT last night.
