GDN: THE number of labour cases dealt by the Indian Embassy has considerably reduced in the past two months, a top diplomat said yesterday.
Indian Ambassador Mohan Kumar said they were witnessing a drop in the number of cases taken up at the monthly Open House held at the embassy in Adliya.
"I think this is because we opened doors of the embassy even during working days for our nationals to address their needs. For a number of about 400,000 Indians in Bahrain we are daily receiving 15-20 cases at the embassy."
He further attributed the reduction in cases because of the outsourcing of visa, passport and consular services to Octic International Indian passport and visa service centre.
Mr Kumar highlighted that the embassy staff were devoting more time for each application including for visa application, with the helping hand of the outsourcing service.
"Outsourcing is critical and has saved valuable time of the embassy. The embassy is issuing about 60-70 visas a day and our staff has enough time to evaluate each application."
The ambassador was speaking during the Open House held yesterday at the embassy attended by community workers.
Some of the cases taken up yesterday included that of wage dispute and workers employed without any contract among other issues.
Mr Kumar also raised the case of about 128 workers employed with Abdulla Nass Contracting Company.
The workers were slapped with a travel ban after the firm lodged a complaint against them for reportedly not showing up for work.
Review
Indian Embassy First Secretary Ajay Kumar said most of the workers returned home, while others' cases are being reviewed.
Meanwhile, the working hours of Octic International will change from Monday during the Holy month of Ramadan.
The Gudaibiya branch will be open from Saturday to Thursday from 8.30am to 5pm, while the Riffa branch timings are from 8am to 1pm and 4pm to 6pm.
