DT: A mentally ill housemaid who was stuck in the Kingdom waiting for her court case to be resolved has been repatriated.
The Nepali worker was allegedly raped; she was being treated at the Psychiatric Hospital in Salmaniya.
“She has been sent back home after her psychological condition stabilised,” said a Nepali Club member.
“The employers also cooperated with us to repatriate her.”
DT had earlier reported that the woman had run away from her sponsor because of being overworked and beaten.
While running away, she was picked up by several Asian men who allegedly raped her.
She roamed the streets by herself after the incident.
She ended up around Manama where a few Nepali workers observed she was mentally unstable. They took the distressed worker to the Nepali Club.
The club had filed a case against her employer to release her from employment to allow her to go home.
They succeeded, but she was stopped at the airport on the way to Nepal because of her mental state.
She was then admitted to the Psychiatric Hospital. Her condition has improved now.
However, she preferred not to pursue the rape case, as she would have had to stay in Bahrain longer. v
