UPDATE: Building staff shocked at dancer's leap to death

GDN: STAFF at a Juffair building from which a Yemeni dancer jumped to death from a sixth-floor apartment have spoken of their shock at her suicide.

The 22-year-old leapt from a kitchen window of the Middle East Suite last Friday.

Sources described her as being in an "abnormal condition" when she locked the door of her flat and killed herself.

It was revealed she had previously tried to commit suicide due to emotional problems.

"We know she was a dancer but do not know where she worked," said the building's duty manager Amar Bantyopadhyay.

"She was living in the building on a long-term basis."

He was not around at the time the incident happened and was told about the suicide by a building receptionist.

"I instructed her to inform police and call an ambulance," he said.

"When I arrived at the scene, her body had already been taken away by ambulance and we were not told if she had died or not."

Mr Bantyopadhyay said most residents had been unaware of the tragedy as it happened at around 8.30am on a Friday morning.

"No resident saw anything as far as we know since it happened at a time when everyone was asleep," he said.

"We are still shocked by the whole incident and do not know what exactly happened."

A housekeeper, who wished to remain unidentified, claimed the dancer usually used to return home under the influence of alcohol.

"She usually came drunk back home, but otherwise she was really nice," she said.
